Pequot : a member of an American Indian people of southern New England. The Mashantucket Pequot are a federally recognized Native American nation in the state of Connecticut. The museum is the World''s Largest Native American Museum which takes a journey through 20,000 years of Native and natural history. The Museum offers engaging experiences for all ages, from life-size walk-through dioramas that transport visitors into the past, to changing exhibits, and live performances of Native American contemporary arts and cultures. Two libraries, including one for children, offer a diverse selection of materials on the histories and cultures of all Native peoples of the United States and Canada. The Mashantucket Pequot Museum & Research Center is a non-profit educational institution that seeks to further knowledge and understanding of the richness and diversity of the indigenous cultures and societies of the United States and Canada. To accomplish this mission, the Museum & Research Center will conduct and support research and the development of ethnographic, archival, library, and archeological collections and provide programs and exhibits that encourage interaction with and among indigenous peoples, the general public, and the scholarly community.
