「眷村」是一個特殊的移民社會，它可說是台灣社會特別歷史時期的產物，也是一種時代的現象反映。民國38年中央政府自大陸撤守台灣，當時陸續來台的外省籍人數，約占當時台灣人口數的9.9%，軍方需要在極短的時間去安置如此龐大人口的居住問題，故因陋就簡地增建簡易集約式社區，安置軍眷。

民國38年台南市便已有了眷村，大多數是由日本遺留下來之宿舍改建而成，民國四O年起在台南市區外圍大量興建眷村，至今已幾十年。近年來全國各地的眷村逐年進行改建，此一特有的空間型態將消失殆盡，眷村的第一代已日益凋零，特有的眷村文化也因各種因素而日趨消失，故保留眷村歷史的紀錄應是刻不容緩且具歷史意義。

本研究以過去外省族群與眷村居民所做的研究與文獻為主，探討眷村緣起、背景、改建或遷村；並以台南市的眷村為例，論述眷村歷史文化演變與族群認同，主要藉著外省人、原住民與在地人，透過各種經濟活動、文化交流、通婚等方式逐漸融合外，並了解眷村改建前後的實質環境，眷村居民經時間變遷及環境改變，所產生的新居住模式與型態。

“Juan village” is a special society of emigration. It can be said to be a product of history in the society of Taiwan and a reflection of phenomena in modern times. In Year 38 of the Republic of China, the government of the Republic of China withdrew to Taiwan. At that time, the number of people who came from China occupied the 9.9% of the population in Taiwan. The military authority needed to settle the living problem of the huge population in a very short time, so it made available to establish simple and intensive type of community to solve the problem.

In Year 38 of the Republic of China, there had been already “Juan villages” in Tainan, most of which are dorms that were rebuilt in the period of Japanese occupation. Since Year 40, many Juan villages have been constructed around Tainan downtown. Since then, it’s been 50 years. Recently the Juan villages in all parts of the country are rebuilt year by year. Now this special community will soon die out. The first generation of Juan village is getting withered, and the special culture of the Juan village disappears because of many factors. As a result, reserving the historical record of Juan village is great urgency and it historically means a lot.

This research will start from the Juan village origin, formation background, reconstruction to village movement, and take the Juan village of Tainan as an example and probe into Juan village’s history culture, the main purpose is to blend gradually those people through various econmic activities, cultural interaction, and intermarriage.
