Longmen-jioushe site located on the estuary of Shuangsi River is a sand dune type site. The age of this site determined by carbon 14 dating is 350~200 BP. In past researches, this site was referred to Jioushe type of Shih-san-hang Culture. In addition to abundant shells and exotic items, another trait of this site is small and granulous slag remains and fired clay. Outside of these slag remains is different from other slag remains found in northeastern coastal areas. The amount of these slag remains is about 20㎏. This thesis mainly aims to analyze these remains of iron production of Longmen-jioushe site.

Chapter 1 through 3 construct the research context, including a review of the iron production of archaeology in Taiwan and an overview of data obtained from the excavation of Longmen-jioushe site. Chapter 4 and 5 are the principle of iron production, the process of iron production experiment and field investigation of smithy. Chapter 6 is comparison of the products of experiment, the slag of forging and the remains of iron production of Longmen-jioushe site. Chapter 7 discusses the iron production of Longmen-jioushe site by historical literatures.

Base on literature and modern smelting process, ferrous remains may be produced in smelting, casting, forging or refining. Different rejects may represent the different technology and stage. By comparison, I find the slag of forging and the remains of Longmen-jioushe site have similarities on outside and process of disintegration, hence I think these slag remains of this site probably were slag of forging.

Because of the correspondence to date and location, many scholars think that Longmen-jioushe site should be a part of Shan-diao village in the historical literatures. In terms of literatures, the people of Shan-diao village and neighborhood got sustenance by trade and craft production included ironwork. Iron is also a kind of important commodity between the aborigines, Chinese, and Dutch. Therefore it is supposed that the people of Shan-diao village probably obtained iron by trading with Chinese and then forged according to purpose.
