This project aims to describe how Indigenous people living in diaspora and contemporary Indigenous artists have employed dance in projects of cultural resurgence and placemaking. Refusing to show images of dancing Indigenous bodies, the research will instead focus on the effects of dance for dancers and audiences, effects that have implications for how we think about Taiwan''s process of decolonization. With its attention to how traditional dance forms are animated in intercultural contexts, the project will contribute to discussions of animation, sovereignty, and cultural resurgence in ethnomusicology and anthropology.
