In recent years social media has expanded its application to interactive knowledge sharing platforms; however, as of yet, there is still a lack of broad-reaching or in-depth research on use of social media for knowledge sharing related to indigenous culture.
Therefore, this study has chosen to use the Facebook social media platform as a sharing medium to focus on the knowledge sharing activities of Taiwanese indigenous college students. The study adopts a mixed research method and uses a qualitative content analysis to gain an understanding of the distribution of knowledge sharing topic categories. Interviews are then used to further explore the reasons behind the distribution of those categories. Finally, the qualitative research results are used to establish an Indigenous Undergraduate Facebook Group to conduct a knowledge sharing behavior intentions model questionnaire and validate the analytic results.
The study obtained 364 Facebook interactions to serve as the data for the content analysis. The interview sample includes eight people and the questionnaire sample includes 391 people. Once the qualitative research establishes the model, the questionnaire is used to validate the results. The qualitative and quantitative combined research method applied to Taiwan indigenous college student social media sharing is a feasible approach and can provide a rich understanding of different phenomenon regarding social media knowledge sharing of students. The results of this research describe the situation surrounding the distribution and categories of articles shared on social media by indigenous college students, including knowledge sharing intentions, outside knowledge absorption and gathering channels for innovative resources. The results of this study can serve as a reference for academics or practitioners.
