The traditional weaving of Atayal plays an important role in the aboriginal weaving culture, and also valuable resource on developing tribal characters. The fact that weaving activity has been very popular until present, results from promotion and teaching of the craft in tribes. Government has strongly promoted aboriginal weaving crafts, and imported braiders for table use or braiders stand in these years. This not only results in the spread of this work, but also the downfall of the traditional weaving skills. The evolvement of this handcraft in Atayal is a negative example of other tribes.

This study roughly shows Atayal’s weaving activities and was conducted by literature reviews, images analysis and field survey. Part of literature is the Local Chorography of Qing Dynasty, historical materials during the Japanese Occupation, and books about the Taiwan Governor''s Office’s policy for aboriginals, as follows:

1. I discuss the development and importance of Se-edeq’s traditional weaving activities in Alan-Gluban.

2. I examine the changes and effects that resulted from tribal weaving factories.

3. With the discussion above, we can further understand tribal elites and government have gradually revived and passed down their culture. To accord with the popularity of passing down the tradition and culture, they have intensively provided traditional handcraft courses and have been seeking a new way of traditional weaving works.
