Due to the westernization and modernization, the traditional culture of Amis Tribe’s music is transforming into a new musical style. After experiencing the multiple “external colonization” and “internal colonization” processes, the long-term invasion of cultural colonialism has greatly changed Amis Tribe’s life style in many ways. Influenced by the multiplication of folk arts and public culture in the Post-modern society, Amis Tribe’s music has already been corroded and westernized. How can Amis Tribe’s traditional music culture survive and be passed down? How to integrate both the tradition and modernization, deconstruct and reconstruct to make it not only conform to the modern society, but hang over the vitality of Amis traditional music as well?

The thesis explicates the development of Amis Tribe’s traditional music, and further explores how colonization/post-colonization results in the Amis Tribe’s contradiction and identification crisis toward their music. Under modernization and post-modernization, the values shift. Confronted with the interaction of post-modernization and post-colonization, how will Amis Tribe’s music make a breakthrough, and combine the diversification to discover the new orientation? In this thesis, Malatan is the main research subject. Different from other aboriginal musical groups, Malatan is the one that combines songs, dances, and drama; the one that takes roots from the traditional tribe, and extends outward to the world. Therefore, Malatan is the representative of Amis Tribe’s introspection and transformation toward their local music.

Finally, the researcher adopts the viewpoint by Dalai Lama. Only through the mutual trust, and coexistence between the government and the aborigines can Amis Tribe implement various ideas and suggestions. Accordingly, Amis Tribe’s can retain the traditional music culture, and simultaneously keep up with the trends.

It is suggested by the research that, first, the government should work on a comprehensive program of WiMAX and digital convergence. Second, the academic organiz
