The purpose of this research is to explore and specify the constraints of the present participation of Aboriginal Harvest Festival, via the exploration of Amis aborigines in Chang-yuan community. With the survey, the model investigated is classified into three different groups-people stay in the community, people employed in metropolitan areas, and people educated away from the community. The results of the survey are analyzed by the methods of descriptive statistics, Chi-square test, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and sheffe’s method. The final outcome of the research is as follows:

1. The influential factors of Chang-yuan village people’s participation motivations are: (1) to develop the team spirit (2) to obtain traditional songs, dances, and ritual ceremonies (3) to cultivate cultural sophistication (4) to develop interpersonal relation (5) to pay respect to Amis ancestors. The influence of the four categories of motivations is in the following order: Intellectual, Social, Competence-Mastery, and Stimulus-Avoidance.

2. According to the results, the impact of the factors of personal background, except for “age” and “marriage condition,” on participation motivations is statistically significant. As for the differences among participation motivations shown in the three different types of participation-the actual and the expectative participation, and whether the tribe people are in charge of the festival-are also statistically significant.

3. The first five predominant factors of Chang-yuan village people’s participation constraints are: (1) being under obligation to jobs (2) being burdened with work and studies (3) a lack of leadership (4) a lack of companions and (5) a lack of information resources. As the obstacles resulted from the three categories of constraints taken into account, the “structural” constraints have the dominant influence over the succeeding two- the interpersonal and the intra-personal constraints.

4. Related to their impact on the participation constraints, the factors of personal background are all statistically significant, except for “gender;” in other words, different personal backgrounds are the primary referential indication of constraints of Chang-yuan village people’s Harvest Festival participation. Similar to the differences among participation motivations obtained from the three different types of participation, those among participation constraints are all statistically significant, too.

5. In general, the correlation between motivations and constraints is found obviously meaningful in the final result.
